Inspired by a Maui vacation in 2005, these pictures and masks pulse with the Aloha spirit. The fronds were found homeless in San Diego - lying in sidewalks, gutters, rooftops and on lawns before being coddled, cleaned, stained and rendered in acrylic. As Michaelangelo said about his work, "The artwork has always existed – I’ve just revealed it." The photos are pieces of my life. I hope you enjoy them. Peter

A San Diego native since his birth Aug 31, 1970, Peter Chenard has been a force in the art world since 1974 when he rendered his first smiley-face plate under the auspices of the felt pen/plastic plate medium. Awards poured in, yet he boldly expanded his repertoire, fanning the undergraduate flame at San Diego City and Mesa Colleges before transferring to CSU Humboldt for a degree in Public Relations/Graphic Journalism and a minor in Anthropology. Undaunted, Mr. Chenard schlepped artistically even rendering the label for Heidrun Meadery in Arcata, CA before deciding to run the gauntlet and move to Terre Haute, Indiana; Durham, North Carolina and San Diego to philander as a graphics journalist and designer for each city's newspaper. Sanity intact, he evolved into an artist and photographer for adidas, the City of San Diego, the Rock'n Roll Marathon and numerous magazines while somehow managing to maintain a penchant for the whimsical. Today, he lives in Golden Hill with his trusted 90-lb., 8-yr.-old Yellow Lab. Linus and a school of savagely hungry African cyclids.
